Equity and Transformation x The New Vanguard have partnered to establish the Vanguard Legacy Grant for emerging artists who need additional funding towards their craft. Our series of celebration events will help raise funds, culminating in an award to a deserving artist at the end of the campaign.
The Vanguard Legacy Grant 2023 Official Rules
The New Vanguard Foundation exists to give back by sharing resources with communities that have limited access. Ensuring more creatives of color have knowledge around creating and amplifying their craft. The Vanguard Legacy Grant Program is designed to promote equity and inclusion in the arts by supporting emerging artists from underrepresented communities.
This program is a collaboration between the New Vanguard Foundation and E.A.T. to provide artists with the resources they need to grow and develop their craft. The program includes the “Vanguard Legacy Grant”, which will award multiple innovative artists with a $5,000 grant each to support the furtherance of their artistic career. Additionally, the program includes mentorship opportunities with established artists and professionals in the field, as well as access to educational resources and networking events.
Application Period
The “Vanguard Legacy Grant” Application Period starts on April 1st 2023 and ends on June 30th 2023 at 11:59 p.m. EST (the “Application Period”).
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be 21 years old or older at the time of submission.
- Applicants must be legal residents of the United States.
- Applicants must be from an underrepresented community, including but not limited to: people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from low-income backgrounds.
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to their artistic practice and a desire to further their career in the arts.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should follow the instructions to complete and submit the application form below. The application must include the following:
- Artist contact information: name, age, bio, and website or social media handles.
- A portfolio of previous work, including 3-5 pieces that showcase the artist's style and skill.
- A written statement (500 words or less) that describes the artist's artistic practice and goals for their career.
- A video statement (2 minutes or less) that addresses the following prompt: How will this grant help you achieve your artistic goals and contribute to greater equity and inclusion in the arts?
Selection of Grant Recepients
After the close of the application period, all eligible applications will be reviewed by the Vanguard Legacy Grant Committee based on the following criteria:
- Artistic merit and potential (40%).
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in the arts (30%).
- Clarity and persuasiveness of written and video statements (30%).
